A Stallion Share to one of Europe's most exciting young stallions ZARAK will be offered in the Tattersalls Online January Sale

The Tattersalls Online January Sale has attracted 65 entries to commence a highly anticipated year of thoroughbred sales for the Tattersalls group. The sale which takes place on 18th - 19th January is highlighted by a stallion share in leading young sire ZARAK as well as numerous highly sought after Breeding Rights ahead of a busy breeding season. The catalogue also comprises 36 horses in/out of training, a selection of broodmares, a pair of two-year-olds, a yearling by EQTIDAAR and a single point-to-point entry.

The sale presents the opportunity to secure a stallion share in the Aga Khan Studs’ hugely promising young sire ZARAK, whose first two crops boast Group winners PURPLEPAY, BAIYKARA, SIRJAN, LAVELLO and LIZAID and the Classic placed TIMES SQUARE and LA PARISIENNE. His progeny’s success on the racecourse has commanded a fee rise to €60,000 as he enters his sixth season at stud in 2023. The shareholder will receive a minimum of one nomination every year and an additional bonus nomination in 2024 and every subsequent even numbered year.

A Breeding Right to Whitsbury Manor Stud’s 2022 leading European first crop sire HAVANA GREY will also be offered, as well as Breeding Rights to CHARMING THOUGHT, HARRY ANGEL, PROFITABLE, RIBCHESTER, TERRITORIES and TIME TEST.

The sale will also feature the Lance Bloodstock Reduction comprising seven horses in training and the ORATORIO mare REPRESENT YOURSELF, offered in foal to EQUIANO. Among the horses in training is the three-time winner SATIN SNAKE, a recent winner at Kempton on 11th January, and the five-time winner ALOYSIUS LILIUS.

Trainer Ger O’Leary commented on the reasons behind the reduction on behalf of Lance Bloodstock:

“Lance Bloodstock is reducing numbers in order to make space for a number of homebred two-year-olds that are in training in my stables. Lance Bloodstock also plans on purchasing a select number of two-year-olds in the upcoming breeze up sales. The horses in training that are being offered have won many races. They have all passed a rigorous vetting process and all have recent racing form.”

O’Leary indicated that the decision to sell on the Tattersalls Online platform was based on the ease at which the sales can be organised and the cost-effective nature of selling this way:

“Lance Bloodstock made the decision to sell with Tattersalls Online because it causes no disruption to the training routine of the horses and avoids the expense of sending staff to the sales for two days.”

Amongst the broodmare offerings in the sale are a trio consigned by Beswick Brothers Bloodstock led by SALOME, offered in foal to the exciting MOHAATHER. Glebe Farm Stud will offer a pair of mares including OASIS DREAM mare ISLAND MAGIC, a daughter of Group 1 Epsom Oaks heroine CASUAL LOOK who will be offered in foal to U S NAVY FLAG.

No less than six recent Dundalk winners feature in the catalogue including the Denis Cullen trained winning four-year-old debutante CHARLISSE. Ciaran Murphy’s Charlestown Racing will offer COOLCALMNCOLLECTED, an impressive winner of his last two starts, as well as the three-year old BERKSHIRE filly LA TULIPE NOIRE, also a winner on her most recent start. Gay Kelleway’s Queen Alexandra Stables will offer three-year old filly COMEDIAN LEADER who put up an impressive performance at Southwell on 6th January to win by a length and three-quarters.

Willie Mullins’ Closutton Stables will offer Grade 1 Champion Novices Hurdle winner CILAOS EMERY who boasts an impressive record having consistently competed at the highest level throughout his career, most recently running fourth in the Grade 3 New Year’s Day Chase at Tramore. DUTCH SCHULTZ presents an opportunity to purchase an up-and-coming National Hunt prospect, posting an Irish Hurdle rating of 116 on his most recent start for Gavin Cromwell. Another prospect to spark interest is the MILAN mare JESINA offered by Jessica Harrington’s Commonstown Stables, who boasts a notable National Hunt pedigree featuring Grade 1 winners JEZKI, JERED and JETSON.

The catalogue has attracted drafts from stud farms including Baroda Stud, Belmont Stud, Simmonstown Stud and Starfield Stud, as well as entries from trainers Brian Meehan, Adrian Keatley, Alice Haynes, Ado McGuiness, James Ferguson, Kevin Frost, Ralph Beckett, and Tom Ward.
