Tullyhill Tops Tattersalls Online April Sale at 45,000 Guineas

Grade 1 placed national hunt performer TULLYHILL was today’s top lot in the Tattersalls Online April Sale when realising 45,000 guineas to the bid of Thomas Foley, co-founder of Black Type Capital.

Consigned by Willie Mullins’ Closutton Stables, the son of MARTALINE previously finished second in the Grade 1 Punchestown Champion INH Flat Race before going on to win the Listed Sheila Bourke Hurdle for owner Cheveley Park Stud.

With both international and domestic aspirations, winning purchaser Thomas Foley commented following the sale:

“There are no big plans yet but there are opportunities in America for him this summer at Saratoga and Belmont where there is a bit less emphasis on jumping, or he could have a campaign on better ground in Ireland. He will go down to Ray Hurley in Clonakilty who will have him for a month and tell us where to go.”

A regular online participant on the platform, Foley added: “We’ve been lucky buying with Tattersalls Online – everything we’ve bought, we’ve done well with.”

Willie Mullins’ Closutton Stables offered three lots in the catalogue who all found favour for an aggregate of 60,000 guineas.

The second highest priced lot was the lightly raced five-year-old L’AMALRIC from Olly Murphy’s Warren Chase Stables who realised 31,000 guineas and remains in the yard for new connections. Having had four runs in Irish point-to-points, the son of MUHTAHIR made a promising debut under rules when finishing third in a bumper at Southwell last month.

A duo offered on behalf of Wathnan Racing proved popular amongst bidders with classy sprinter FORTIFICATION selling for 26,000 guineas to Brian Ellison from Archie Watson’s Iveagh, whilst well-bred WOOTTON BASSETT filly CERELIA fetched 19,500 guineas when purchased by Amen Corner from William Haggas’ Somerville Lodge.

The Tattersalls Online April Sale realised a turnover of 292,800 guineas for 36 lots sold at an average price of 8,133 guineas. Over 260 bidders joined the sale from countries including Britain, Czech Republic, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, The Netherlands and the United States of America as well bidders from throughout the Gulf region.

Unsold lots remain available and offers can be made through the Make An Offer facility on the Tattersalls Online website. Enquiries are also welcome by phone or via email to the Tattersalls Online team to tattersallsonline@tattersalls.com.
