Star Mare Washington Blue to Feature in the Tattersalls Online November Sale

WASHINGTON BLUE, the dam of impressive recent Keeneland Grade 3 winner ROMAGNA MIA, is set to be one of the highlights of the Tattersalls Online November Sale scheduled for the 22 – 23 November.

The Team Valor owned WASHINGTON BLUE is being offered in foal to proven Group 1 sire STARSPANGLEDBANNER who has had a memorable year on the global racing stage with his progeny continuing to achieve top-level success, including Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet winner ARISTIA, Group 2 Rockfel Stakes winner CARLA’S WAY as well as 2022 Group 1 Hong Kong Mile winner CALIFORNIA SPANGLE who has added two more Group 2 victories to his record in 2023.

Trained by leading American trainer Graham Motion, ROMAGNA MIA, also winner of the Group 2 Premio Lydia Tesio, is being aimed at the $2.5 million H. H. The Amir Trophy in Qatar in February. In her two North American starts to date, the four-year old daughter of MASTERCRAFTSMAN has placed third in the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes before securing a three-length victory in the Grade 3 Dowager Stakes at Keeneland in October, earning her a Timeform rating of 112 in the process.

The dam of three winners from four foals of racing age, WASHINGTON BLUE’s two-year-old daughter ARETHA STAR is another exciting prospect having won impressively on debut in Rome. The daughter of POSTPONED was narrowly beaten on her next start, establishing herself as a candidate for next year’s Oaks D’Italia.

WASHINGTON BLUE is out of the DAYLAMI mare POWDER BLUE and is a granddaughter of Champion Two-Year-Old filly BLUE DUSTER, herself the winner of the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes and the Group 3 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot and grandam of top class mares FANTASIA and PINK SYMPHONY.
