Record clearance as Julia Augusta tops Tattersalls Online April Sale at 72,000gns

JULIA AUGUSTA lead the way in a record-breaking Tattersalls Online April Sale when fetching 72,000 guineas to the winning bid of owner Jimmy Chua. The daughter of ULYSSES boosted her profile when finishing a close fourth in the Listed Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes at Kempton on her most recent start last Saturday. Consigned by Roger Varian’s Carlburg Stables, JULIA AUGUSTA is out of a half-sister to the dam of Group 3 Chicago Stakes winner ABBY HATCHER and hails from the family of Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes winner POET’S WORD.

 

Roger Varian commented after the sale: “Selling Julia Augusta through the Tattersalls Online platform was a straightforward process. We feel like we achieved a good result and we would highly recommend it.”

 

Leading consignors Baroda Stud offered 13 yearlings and sold all 13 for a total of 169,800 guineas with an average price of 13,062 guineas. Smashing the record for a yearling sold on the Tattersalls Online platform was a daughter of MEHMAS who realised 45,000 guineas when purchased by Kingthorn Racing. The eye-catching filly is a half-sister to Group 2 Superlative Stakes third NEVERLAND ROCK and is out of a half-sister to HAVANA GOLD. Other notable results from the draft included a colt by Group 1 Japan Cup winner ADMIRE MOON bought for 35,000 guineas by R T Goodes, a son of ALMANZOR from the family of AUGUSTE RODIN purchased by Clifton Farm for 21,000 guineas and a colt by BATED BREATH who realised 18,500 guineas to DR Bloodstock.

The Whitewall Stables Complete Dispersal saw five lots sold headed by classy flat performer LAAFY who was purchased for 27,000 guineas by trainer Brian Ellison. Other results from the dispersal included the 10,000 guineas for BALLYWOOD BOY and 9,500 guineas for BURGUNDY MAN. 

 

Also finding favour in the sale was the Joseph O’Brien consigned AL ABREQA who sold for 20,000 guineas to Creighton Schwartz Bloodstock and the Kevin Philippart de Foy consigned HOTAUGUSTNIGHT who sold to Syd Hosie Racing for 19,000 guineas. 

 

The Tattersalls Online April Sale recorded a 76 per cent clearance which was the highest for a sale held on the Tattersalls Online platform since its inception and realised a turnover of 427,100 guineas for 47 lots sold, at an average of 9,087 guineas. Over 240 bidders registered for the sale from countries including America, Britain, France, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Norway, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and from throughout the Gulf region.
