Paggane Headlines Tattersalls Online June Sale at 100,000 Guineas

Following a busy day of online trading, Grade 2 placed mare PAGGANE topped proceedings in the Tattersalls Online June Sale when realising 100,000 guineas to the winning bid of Charles Shanahan. Already boasting an impressive racecourse career to date, the six-year-old daughter of MUHAARAR received a timely update when her half-sister CALIFORNIA DREAMER finished second in the Group 1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas at The Curragh.

Following the sale Shanahan said: “She caught our eye in the sale, especially after California Dreamer placed in the Irish 1000 Guineas. She has been bought for an existing partnership and we potentially will have some other partners coming into her. The plan is that she will stay in training. She will have the summer off and hopefully she will go to Cheltenham next year.  We knew she would not be cheap, but she was around the money we thought she would make and we are very happy to secure her. She has run some very good races this year, and, no matter what happens, she will be a very valuable broodmare for the future.”

Shanahan was participating in the sale as both a vendor and purchaser, and went on to add:

“I was following the sale closely as I also had some animals selling today that I was involved in. It has all been a huge success. We haven’t had to travel the horses anywhere and it is a great advertisement for selling going forward. We have used the online sales a lot in recent times and they really are a great initiative.”

The top lot of the sale was one of three lots consigned by dual Champion trainer Willie Mullins who has been one of the most notable consignors across the Tattersalls Online sales this year. The stable had further success in today’s auction with Grade 3 Scottish Grand National runner-up KLARC KENT who was purchased for 28,000 guineas by Jacob Pritchard Webb with the aim of running in the Czech Republic’s prestigious cross-country contest, the Velká Pardubická.

Regular Tattersalls Online buyer Dan Astbury was amongst the most active bidders of the day purchasing two lots which included juvenile colt UNAUTHORIZED who realised 88,000 guineas and two-year-old colt SIR ASTON who fetched 56,000 guineas, both consigned by Avenue Sales.

Progressive sprinter KENDALL ROY was another lot to attract the attention of bidders and was eventually knocked down for 70,000 guineas. Consigned by trainer Katie McGivern’s Derryconnor Stud, the four-year-old gelding was successful four times in 2024 which saw his IHRB rating climb from 65 to 93.

Maclean’s Music filly tops the Tattersalls Online Breeze Up Session

This month’s auction featured the Tattersalls Online Breeze Up Session which saw 13 lots sold for an aggregate of 170,142 guineas. Now in its third renewal, the session continues to grow each year and enjoyed significant success in 2024 with the victory of graduate FIONA MACCOUL in the €120,000 Irish EBF Auction Race Series Final at Naas. This year’s edition saw the record price achieved in the session broken twice, initially by Silky Thoroughbred’s colt by leading first season sire STARMAN who sold for 31,000 guineas to Sean Grassick Bloodstock before Derek Passant snapped up the M.C. Thoroughbred consigned colt by North American Grade 1 sire MACLEAN’S MUSIC for 33,000 guineas. M. C. Thoroughbred’s Micky Cleere commented following the sale:

“I found it all very good. The surface at Dundalk was one of the best surfaces that we have breezed on of all the places we go to. It’s a lovely safe surface and they let down on it very well. The facilities at Dundalk and how the sale was run by Tattersalls was all absolutely brilliant. It’s like all the breeze up sales, if you have what they want, you will get it sold. I was very happy with how it went and will definitely be supporting it again.”

The Tattersalls Online June Sale realised a turnover of 907,542 guineas for 72 lots sold, at an average price of 12,605 guineas. Over 360 bidders registered for the sale from countries including Britain, India, Ireland, Italy, Germany and The Netherlands as well as bidders from throughout the Gulf region.
