Huxley Tops the Tattersalls Online June Sale
The promising colt HUXLEY realised 52,000 guineas to Dare To Dream Racing to headline the 144 lots catalogued for the Tattersalls Online June Sale. Consigned by Donnacha O’Brien’s Bawnmore Racing, the three-year-old had shown promise in his few starts to date including when twice finishing second at Dundalk. The son of GALILEO is a half-brother to Group 1 Prix Ganay winner CLOTH OF STARS and hails from the world class Niarchos family of Epsom Oaks heroine LIGHT SHIFT.
Following the action via his phone on a beach in Majorca, successful purchaser Will Smith of Dare To Dream Racing said afterwards: “We’ve been wanting to get a nice horse for the syndicate to take us to some top tracks, and we think he’ll provide us with some great opportunities over the summer. He’ll be going to Michael Attwater in Epsom and that’s one of the tracks that should suit him perfectly. His form at Dundalk seems pretty tidy so we’d like a crack at some of the better all-weather races as well.”
A regular user of the Tattersalls Online platform, Smith added: “We feel like we get time to think and have a look, and it’s exciting for all the syndicate members to watch it go through and also you get good exposure with the videos, photos and vet reports. I think it allows you more time to get people involved from the beginning.”
The late GALILEO was responsible for the second highest priced lot of the sale too when the three-year-old WORLD VISION sold for 49,000 guineas to the Wind Chimes Partnership. Consigned by Baroda Stud, the filly is out of the Group 3 winner and Group 1 placed WIND CHIMES.
Other notable results amid strong trade in the horses in training section of the sale included the three-times placed MONO RIVER, consigned by William Haggas’ Somerville Lodge, who fetched 39,000 guineas to Qatar based Mohammed Hamad Khalifa Al Attiyah. Bawnmore Racing’s 84 rated three-year old STARLINER realised 35,000 guineas to regular Tattersalls Online purchaser Blairtum Racing, and the 90 rated colt DRAGON ICON was consigned by Roger Varian’s Carlburg Stables and knocked down for 35,000 guineas to Mrs Angelica Spence.
Following the successful inaugural edition of the breeze up session at Dundalk Stadium in 2023, an additional session in the UK at Chelmsford City Racecourse was added to this year’s Tattersalls Online June Sale and the breeze up section was rewarded with improved results.
The highest priced lot amongst the ‘breezers’ was Beresford Stable’s daughter of COULSTY who realised 27,000 guineas to Jack Cantillon. A half-sister to four winners, the filly had posted the fastest timed breeze over two furlongs at Dundalk and comes from a deep international family. A first among breeze up sales in Europe, Tattersalls Online made all breeze times publicly available.
Beresford Stables’ delighted Shane Ryan said following the sale: “I couldn’t be any happier, she’s after getting a good home. I’ve loved the filly from the start and struggled to get her into sales but always knew I had a bit of quality with her. Thank god that Tattersalls put on the Online Sale and gave me a position. It couldn’t have been a better sale for everyone to sell their horses.”
16 breeze up lots were sold in the sale for an aggregate of 176,800 guineas.
The RMM Bloodstock consigned broodmare BAY FILLY ROLLA found plenty of favour towards the end of the sale and sold for 34,000 guineas to K Mills. The placed daughter of SHOWCASING was offered in foal to first season sire TRIPLE TIME and with a filly foal at foot by HARRY ANGEL. The trio of Point to Point lots offered for sale all found buyers, led by the two-time winner MYLENO who sold for 8,500 guineas to Laura Horsfall Racing.
The Tattersalls Online June Sale recorded a 60 percent clearance and realised a turnover of 677,100 guineas for 71 lots sold, at an average price of 9,537 guineas. Over 300 bidders registered for the sale from over 20 countries including America, Belgium, Britain, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Zambia and from throughout the Gulf region.
