Eavesdropping Tops Tattersalls Online February Sale

A busy afternoon of online action saw dual hurdles winner EAVESDROPPING top the Tattersalls Online February Sale at 24,000 guineas to the winning bid of Whitson Bloodstock. Consigned by trainer Olly Murphy’s Warren Chase Stables, the daughter of KAYF TARA is a full sister to highly promising hurdler BUTCH who was a winner when last seen at Cheltenham in January and holds an entry in the Grade 2 Rendlesham Hurdle at Haydock this coming Saturday.

Following the sale, Murphy said: “Eavesdropping has been bought by my father and uncle to go to the breeding paddocks. Obviously, I have BUTCH the full brother at home who’s favourite for the Grade 2 on Saturday. She was a filly we were keen to have back if possible and she’s made a nice price for her owners Deva Racing.”

An Olly Murphy-consigned lot also headed the horses in training section of the sale when wildcard entry MACANUDO realised 21,000 guineas when purchased by trainer Ian Williams. Demonstrating the versatility of online auctions, the three-year-old gelding was a late addition after winning at Chelmsford on the Friday before the sale was due to take place and connections were rewarded for their quick thinking with a successful sale.

Murphy commented: “Macanudo was bought for 9,000 guineas at Tattersalls last October. He has won a race and doubled his price tag so we’re delighted. My father and uncle own the mare so hopefully he can win more races for our home pedigree. We look forward to supporting the Tattersalls Online sales again going forward.”

Other notable results amongst the horses in training included a pair of fillies consigned by Jessica Harrington’s Commonstown Stables. POMERIGGIO, a recent winning daughter of CARAVAGGIO sold for 15,500 guineas to Gerard O’Neill whilst stablemate QUEEN OF SEDUCTION is also off to new connections having been sold for 13,000 guineas to Whitehall Stud.

Featuring as the top-priced broodmare in the sale was the Mildmay Stud & Farm Ltd. consigned mare JUFOON who was knocked down for 18,500 guineas to Gordian Troeller Bloodstock on behalf of Gabe Hall. The daughter of DUBAWI has already produced two winners from two runners and was offered in foal to Tweenhills’ Group 1 2000 Guineas winner KAMEKO. Although lightly campaigned, JUFOON has black type to her own name having finished second in a Listed fillies race at Deauville at three and is a half-sister to Listed winner LA GOMMEUSE.

At the close of bidding, the Tattersalls Online February Sale realised a turnover of 250,200 guineas for the sale of 39 lots, at an average of 6,415 guineas. Over 220 bidders from across the globe participated in the sale with registered bidders from Britain, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, and from across the Gulf region.
