95 Lots Catalogued for the Tattersalls Online January Sale

The 2024 European sales season kickstarts into action with the Tattersalls Online January Sale which takes place on Wednesday 17 January to Thursday 18 January. The first sale of the year features 95 lots and the high-quality catalogue is now available to view at www.tattersallsonline.com.

The catalogue is headlined by a Breeding Right to Europe’s most exciting young stallion, HAVANA GREY, sire of last season’s dual Group 1 winning juvenile VANDEEK. With an exceptional strike rate of 57 per cent winners to runners in 2023, HAVANA GREY is already the sire of 16 Group/Listed winners and 31 Group/Listed performers from his first two crops. A total of seven Breeding Rights are listed for auction including a breeding right to CRACKSMAN, sire of Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner ACE IMPACT, a Breeding Right to Group 1 producing sire HARRY ANGEL, whilst a half-share in French based sire AL WUKAIR is also on offer.

The sale includes 57 horses in and out of training from leading trainers from Britain, Ireland and France. Featuring among the quartet consigned by Gordon Elliott’s Cullentra House Stables is the 120 rated winning hurdler LEVEL NEVERENDING who was beaten only six lengths in the Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival last spring. Another appealing prospect is last start winner ZURICH, an imposing son of DOCTOR DINO who showed plenty of ability winning on his hurdling debut at Pau on New Years Eve. ZURICH is out of winning hurdler ZUREKA, herself a half-sister to black-type French hurdlers COMPATRIOTE and DOM GABRIEL, and will be offered by Ecurie Joséphine Soudan.

A select bunch of six exciting two-year-olds are scheduled to sell including a colt by the classy young sire TOO DARN HOT who is out of Group 2 winning mare PRICELESS; the already-named filly SHIVA’S LEGACY whose second dam is the twice crowned Champion older mare and Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup winner SHIVA, whilst a colt by the ever-reliable BATED BREATH who is a half-brother to the Group 1 placed LA HOGUETTE is sure to garner plenty of interest.

There is plenty on offer for breeders too with 17 broodmares slated for auction headed by the Houghton Bloodstock consigned RENZIA, a half-sister to the Group 1 placed STORMY LEN offered in foal to Group 1 producing sire CRACKSMAN. She comes with lots of potential improvement in her pedigree having a two-year-old by GHAIYYATH to run in 2024 and a yearling by BLUE POINT to follow. Other covering sires represented in the sale include ARIZONA, A’ALI, CALYX, LOGICIAN, NANDO PARRADO, PERSIAN FORCE and TASLEET.

The Tattersalls Online January Sale has received widespread support from 79 individual consignors from across Britain, Ireland and France. The catalogue includes drafts from top Flat and National Hunt owners, trainers and breeders including Ralph Beckett, Cheveley Park Stud, Tom Clover, Richard Fahey, Haras de Guennebourg, Galloway Stud, Houghton Bloodstock, Brian Meehan, Mount Coote Stud, Margaret Mullins, Michael O’Callaghan, Hugo Palmer, Henry Spiller, The National Stud, Tinnakill House Stud, Lucy Wadham and Whitsbury Manor Stud amongst many others.
