Record Participation for Tattersalls Online August Sale

Record participation characterised the Tattersalls Online August Sale with 437 bidders joining the largest online thoroughbred sale to be conducted in Europe this year. Proceedings were headed by the sale of Castlehyde Stud’s attractive young broodmare CARRIAGE who sold to Hardys of Kilkeel for 62,000 guineas.

Offered in foal to Coolmore’s exciting six-time Group 1 winner AUGUSTE RODIN, CARRIAGE is a beautifully bred daughter of NO NAY NEVER. Out of FASTNET ROCK mare ASK ME NICELY, she is a half-sister to three stakes performers as well as to the dam of Group 3 winner and Group 1 Irish Oaks runner-up WEMIGHTAKEDLONGWAY.

The second highest price of 60,000 guineas was shared by two lots including Timeform 96-rated three-year-old RICHIE’S ROCKET who was purchased by George Baker Racing. Winner of a seven-furlong maiden at Lingfield, the son of NEW BAY most recently finished fourth in a competitive handicap at the Goodwood Festival.

Also realising 60,000 guineas was a Breeding Right to exciting sire PALACE PIER which went the way of J and A Young Racing Ltd. The Darley stallion has made an excellent start to his stud career siring Group 2 Lowther Stakes winner ROYAL FIXATION and Group 3 Solario Stakes winner A BIT OF SPIRIT.

Another notable result was seen for three-year-old gelding ALLEGRESSE who sold for 46,000 guineas to Peter Harper. Offered by Andrew Balding’s Kingsclere Training Stables, the promising son of OASIS DREAM was unbeaten over a mile at two and most recently placed second over the same distance at Salisbury in July. 

Leading Tattersalls Online consignor Jessica Harrington’s Commonstown Stables offered eight lots in the sale with all but one exchanging hands at the end of bidding. Topping the consignment was Gowran Park maiden winner CONFUSED who sold for 36,000 guineas to Lodgedown Stables.

Also proving popular was Jack Davison Racing’s Group 3 winning sprinter THUNDERBEAR who realised 35,000 guineas to upwardly mobile Irish trainer, Stephen Thorne and owners Shamrock Thoroughbreds. 

Wathnan Racing’s OUTFLANK was another lot who witnessed fierce competition before being knocked down to Peter Trainor for 30,000 guineas. Consigned by John and Thady Gosden’s Clarehaven Stables, the three-year-old had shown promise in a handful of starts to date and is a half-brother to Group 1 2000 Guineas third ROYAL SCOTSMAN.

The Tattersalls Online August Sale realised a turnover of 894,100 guineas for 94 lots sold at an average price of 9,512 guineas. Bidders joined the sale from countries all over the world including Belgium, Britain, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Pakistan, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, The United States of America and Zambia as well as from throughout the Gulf region.
