Promising Debut for Tattersalls Online Treo Eile Summer Sale

The inaugural Tattersalls Online Treo Eile Summer Sale marked an important milestone in the development of the retrained racehorse sector, providing a dedicated online marketplace for thoroughbreds embarking on second careers. Held alongside the Tattersalls Ireland July Show, the carefully selected catalogue attracted interest from Britain, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the Gulf region.

Generating almost 6,000 page views across the catalogue, the sale featured horses with proven performance records in disciplines including showjumping, eventing, dressage, working hunter and showing. Every lot met strict qualification standards and was supported by professional photography, video footage and comprehensive veterinary documentation, giving prospective buyers confidence to bid remotely.

The sale also reflected the shared commitment of Tattersalls and Treo Eile to promoting life after racing. By combining the auction with the Tattersalls Ireland July Show and introducing a graduate bonus scheme for successful purchasers in 2027 competitions, the initiative encouraged both participation and long-term investment in retrained thoroughbreds. These incentives reinforced the message that former racehorses can thrive as competitive and enjoyable riding horses when given the right opportunities.

Exchanging hands was the five-year-old gelding FLY RIGHT BY, offered by Nicki Russell, who also rode the son of JET AWAY to finish second in the Novice Tattersalls Ireland Treo Eile Showing Pathway Series Final the weekend before the sale. He was knocked down for 5,000 guineas to Brian Flynn, marking a significant first in the development of a dedicated sales pathway for retrained racehorses on the Tattersalls Online platform.

Interest has continued beyond the close of the sale, with enquiries received for a number of unsold lots, which remain available via the ‘Make Offer’ facility on the Tattersalls Online platform.
