Northwest Passage Tops Tattersalls Online February Sale

Progressive stayer NORTHWEST PASSAGE topped the Tattersalls Online February Sale when realising 31,000 guineas to trainer Ivan Furtado.

Consigned by Crimbourne Bloodstock, the son of ULYSSES was a fifteen-length winner at Salisbury in the autumn for trainer Roger Teal and followed up that effort finishing runner-up in a Class 3 handicap at Newbury. Having since been twice tested over hurdles, the attractive grey presents plenty of choice for new connections.

The proven success of Tattersalls Online made it an easy choice for Crimbourne Bloodstock’s Charlie Parker to return to the platform, having previously sold black-type broodmares BARBADOS BLUE and VEGAS BLUE for 90,000 guineas and 75,000 guineas respectively. Parker commented on the decision following the sale:

“We were very happy with today. We have been very lucky with Tattersalls Online, much luckier than we have been in the ring! I just thought he might stand out on there and he did. The last knockings were quite exciting with the time extending at the end and we have done quite well out of it again this time.  We are really pleased and this platform is a really good way of doing it.”

The second highest price of the day was shared by two high-class national hunt mares. Decorated Grade 2 Hampton Novices’ Chase winner GALIA DES LITEAUX was purchased by Mountain View Stud for 30,000 guineas from Dan Skelton Racing. A consistent black-type performer, the daughter of SADDLER MAKER also finished fourth in the Grade 1 Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree.

Meanwhile, dual Listed chase winner ARCLIGHT from Nicky Henderson’s Seven Barrows was knocked down for 30,000 guineas to the winning bid of Simon Cox. As well as also being Listed placed over hurdles, the daughter of CHAMPS ELYSEES is a half-sister to the seven-time winner COTE D’AZUR.

The Tattersalls Online February Sale realised a turnover of 496,300 guineas for 62 lots sold at an average price of 8,005 guineas. Over 330 bidders joined the sale from over 20 different countries including Australia, Britain, Ireland, Italy, France, Germany, Hungary, New Zealand, Norway, Serbia, Spain and Sweden as well bidders from throughout the Gulf region.

Unsold lots remain available and offers can be made through the Make An Offer facility on the Tattersalls Online website. Enquiries are also welcome by phone or via email to the Tattersalls Online team to tattersallsonline@tattersalls.com.
