Breeding Right to Palace Pier Tops Tattersalls Online November Sale at 100,000 Guineas

The largest ever Tattersalls Online sale of 199 lots was topped by a Breeding Right to Darley’s exciting young sire PALACE PIER which was knocked down to Richard Knight and Salhia Stud for 100,000 guineas.

Represented by his first crop of runners this year, the Dalham Hall Stud resident has already made a successful start to his stallion career by siring eight black type performers led by Group 2 Lowther Stakes heroine ROYAL FIXATION and Group 3 Solario Stakes winner A BIT OF SPIRIT.

Bloodstock agent Richard Knight commented following the sale:

“We are delighted to secure the Breeding Right to Palace Pier. He is a stallion that appears to be on the up and we very much had him in mind for a couple of our mares for this coming season. He will also suit a number of our mares going forward so it made a lot of sense for us to invest in the Breeding Right. We are retiring our first broodmares for this season and so this the next part of that journey.”

Having sourced several Breeding Rights online in the past, Knight added:

“The Tattersalls Online platform is great for something like a Breeding Right and serves a very good purpose from that perspective.”

The inaugural Online Yearling Session delivered a new record for the highest priced yearling to sell on the platform with the sale of Lot 10, a Tweenhills consigned filly by international Group 1 sire ZOUSTAR, who sold for 86,000 guineas to James Tate Racing. Out of the Group 3 winner FARMAH, she is a half-sister to the Listed placed RUNNING QUEEN and ZAWAAYA.

Following the sale, David Redvers of Tweenhills Stud said:

“We were very happy with the price of our Zoustar filly selling online for 86,000 guineas today, though not surprised as we had plenty of interest in her from when the sale went live. The whole process was very straightforward and we would have no hesitations about selling a quality horse in an online sale again.”

The horses in training section of the sale was led by the twice-raced three-year-old gelding VELARDO, consigned by Charles Weld Racing who sold to Michael Gates Comfort Park Stud for 62,000 guineas. A half-brother to Listed placed hurdler SAISISSANTE, the son of BELARDO hails from the family of multiple Group 1 winner LORD GLITTERS.

Also proving popular was the Exeter Stables consigned three-year-old SEA THE MOON colt ACCENTUATE who sold for 23,000 guineas to Tim Easterby. Elsewhere, two more in-demand lots were the Listed placed AIMERIC and Timeform 74-rated two-year-old MISS LADY GRACE who both realised 21,000 guineas to JPS Services Ltd and Dan Horsford respectively.

The late addition of Dan and Grace Skelton’s Alne Park Dispersal added plenty of interest to the catalogue with seven of the eight broodmares finding favour, headed by the Grade 3 placed hurdler GET A TONIC who was offered in foal to SUBJECTIVIST and bought by MW for 25,000 guineas. Also garnering interest was juvenile winner SIESTA BEACH who was offered in foal to Coolmore’s exciting young sire LITTLE BIG BEAR and fetched 15,000 guineas when purchased by Winning Bloodstock.

The Tattersalls Online November Sale realised a turnover of 758,800 guineas for 92 lots sold at an average price of 8,248 guineas. Over 370 bidders registered for the sale from countries including Britain, Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Sweden and the USA as well as bidders from throughout the Gulf region.

Unsold lots remain available and offers can be made through the Make An Offer facility on the Tattersalls Online website. Enquiries are also welcome by phone or via email to the Tattersalls Online team to tattersallsonline@tattersalls.com.
